Like many of my favorite personal pieces, this one began without a destination. I simply started sculpting and let instinct guide the process, allowing the forms to evolve without trying to force a concept.
I’ve always been fascinated by how much our subconscious can influence creative work. Sometimes a sculpture reveals an idea immediately, and sometimes its meaning only becomes clear after it’s finished. This one still feels a little mysterious to me, and I like that.
Rather than telling a specific story, I wanted to create something open to interpretation. Every person seems to read a different emotion or narrative into it, and I think that’s part of what makes personal work so rewarding. Once it’s finished, the sculpture belongs as much to the viewer as it does to the artist.
