Beginning & Samurai Hat

I was a little late to the ZBrush 2019 beta, but I still managed to put together a couple of pieces while exploring the new tools.

Beginning had been sitting unfinished for a few months. The new NPR renderer in the ZBrush 2019 beta felt like the perfect opportunity to revisit it and experiment with a more painterly look.

Caravaggio has been a huge influence on the way I think about light and composition, so his work naturally found its way into this piece, as it often does in many of my personal projects.

The Samurai Hat was created almost entirely using the new Spotlight Mesh tools, along with a healthy amount of Gizmo Deformers. It was one of those projects where exploring the new features became just as enjoyable as creating the final piece.
