This piece started the same way many of my personal projects do, with no destination in mind. As the sculpture slowly took shape, I realized I wasn’t sculpting just another creature, I was sculpting a mother.
To me, she represents that quiet balance between giving space and always being ready to protect. Strong, loving, fearless, while still carrying her own journey.
Looking back, it’s impossible not to see how much this piece was influenced by my own relationship with my parents. Once I understood that, the name came naturally: Val, the MamaMonkey.
